A magnificent observation point for the city and the valley, located at 3 152 m above sea level, accessible by cable car or a funicular opened in 1955. You can also get there or walk on foot. Take a good time to climb, a little less to get down. Provide water, caps and sunscreen. The normal access path has been secure for a few years but does not move away for security reasons. This monastery is a very tourist place, avoiding Sunday if you fear the crowd. One must choose its time, because the weather is decisive. It can change a pleasant excursion in a hell of rain, wind and fog. In 1650, a Spanish clergyman and a Spanish bachelor built at the top of this hill a hermitage dedicated to Santa María de la Cruz de Monserrate. For many years, Colombians have come here thousands to worship the image of the Cristo Caído y Azotado. Two restaurants, chicharrones shops and a café await you at the top, as well as craft shops. An essential excursion.
